Srinagar, May 4: Police have arrested 14 gamblers from Srinagar and Sopore area and seized stake money from their possession.
Reports said acting on specific information, police parties from Police Stations Nowgam, Parimpora & Panthachowk raided gambling sites at Summerbugh, Fruit Mandi Parimpora & Bongam Khanmoh, respectively, following inputs about gambling activities and apprehended 11 gamblers.
“Police have seized stake money worth Rs 66,890/- and playing cards from the gamblers. They have been shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody,” police said.
In Sopore, a police party raided a gambling site at Reban orchards following an input about gambling activities and apprehended three gamblers.
“Police have seized stake money and playing cards from the gamblers. They have been shifted to Police Station where they remain in custody.”
Accordingly, police said, cases under relevant sections of the law have been registered in respective Police Stations and further investigation has been initiated.
