14 members Comm set up on voters’ issue

JAMMU, Oct 8: A 14-member Committee has been constituted to chalk out the strategy as regards any attempt of ‘manipulation and inclusion’ of non-locals in the revised electoral rolls of J&K.
The Committee has members from the five People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) constituents and several from other parties like Congress, Shiv Sena, Dogra Swabhiman Sangathan Party (DSSP) and Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS).
The Committee has been formed nearly after a month when a consensus on the issue was arrived at a meeting chaired by former J&K Chief Minister, Dr. Farooq Abdullah here, PAGD spokesperson M Y Tarigami stated in a handout adding that NC MP Justice (retd) Hasnain Masoodi will be the convenor of the Committee.
It is pertinent to mention here that PAGD is an amalgam of five political parties-NC, PDP, CPI (M), CPI and the Awami National Conference (ANC) which are campaigning for the restoration of special status of the erstwhile J&K State.
Besides Masoodi, other members of the Committee include working president of J&K Congress, Raman Bhalla; former MP, Sheikh Abdul Rehman; NC provincial president (Jammu), Rattan Lal Gupta; PDP leaders-Mehboob Beg and A.S Reen; former Minister and DSSP president, Chowdhary Lal Singh and former minister and DSS president, Gulchain Singh Charak.
Shiv Sena’s J&K unit chief, Manish Sawhney; CPI (M) leader, Hari Singh; CPI leader, G.M Mizrab; ANC president, Muzaffar Ahmad Shah; International Democratic Party president, I.D Khajuria and J&K People’s Movement leader, M. Hussain are other members of the Committee.
