144 schools notified under CM’s Model School Scheme in J&K

SRINAGAR: As many as 144 government schools have been notified under Chief Minister’s Model School scheme while vocational education has been introduced in 132 schools of the State.
Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Syed Basharat Bukhari on behalf of Education Minister, today informed the Legislative Assembly that to minimise the gap of General Enrollment Ratio (GER), Centrally Sponsored Scheme RMSA has been launched in the state with the objective to provide a secondary school within a reasonable distance of any habitation.
He said the Secondary School thus established at least 5 kms from nearest high/higher secondary school would have secondary classes and the scheme is meant to ensure universal access of secondary education by 2017 and universal retention by 2020.
The Minister said that incentive schemes like National Mean-Cum Merit Scholarship (NMMSS) and National Scheme of Incentives to Girls for Secondary Education (NSIGSE) are under implementation in the state. The Minister said that Chief Minister’s Model School Scheme has been launched in the state and in Phase-1, 144 schools have been notified under the said scheme in consultation with MLAs/MLCs/MPs.
He said that the provision of free coaching under super 50 programme has been also introduced besides E-learning has been started under ICT by establishment of Smart Class Room with computer Labs during current financial year.
The Minister said, moreover, vocational education has been introduced in 132 schools of the state and construction of girls’ hostels in EBBs has been taken up.
He said that initiative for remedial teaching for the academically weak students of Class-IX has been taken up and Beti Anmol Incentive Scheme is under implementation in the State.
He said that rallies in respect of enrollment drive were conducted at village/zonal level besides all the heads of the institutions are made accountable for bringing back the dropped out children to school. He also said that the detention of the students in the secondary classes has been minimised. (AGENCIES)
