14th FC concludes 3-day visit

SRINAGAR, June 7: The 14th Finance Commission led by Chairman Dr. Y.V. Reddy, which was on three-day visit of the State today left for Delhi.
The members of the Commission included Prof.Abhijit Sen, Member Planning Commission of India, Sushma Nath, Former Finance Secretary, Dr. M. Govind Rao, Director National Institute of Public Finance and Policy, besides, Dr.Sudipto Mundle, Former Acting Chairman of National Statistical Commission
During the three-day visit of the State, the Commission held detailed deliberations with State Government, representatives of Rural, Urban Local Bodies, Trade & Industries Association, political parties and other stakeholders for fixing the award to the State.
The State Government submitted its memorandum and made presentations on the finances of the State Government, its projections for the award period and gave its views on some of the terms of reference of the commission.
The Chairman 14th Finance Commission Dr. Y. V. Reddy appreciated the State Government for ensuring holistic development on all fronts in the State. He assured that the demands projected by the State Government before the Commission would be considered to enable it to have quantum jump in the course of growth and development.
The representatives of the Rural and Urban Local Bodies, Trade & Industry from all the three regions of the State also put-forth the demands for effective functioning of their respective institutions.
The Commission will finalize its recommendations by October, 2014 after completing its discussion with all the State Government, the Government of India and relevant stake holders.
