15 bodies recovered, one still trapped under collapsed house in Kashmir

SRINAGAR : Fifteen bodies have been recovered from the debris of a house which was struck by a huge mudslide in Badgam district of Jammu and Kashmir. Search operation to recover the body of ten-year-old Faisal was still going on, official sources said. Two families, consisting of 16 members, including women and children, were buried alive when the house, in which they were putting in, was hit by huge mudslide due to soil erosion at village Ladden Chadoora in Badgam district yesterday. The soil erosion was caused by heavy rains during the past few days in the village, where district administration had shifted about two dozen families a day earlier, the sources added.
Deputy Commissioner, Badgam, has described the incident as very unfortunate.
He said massive operation has been launched to rescue people from other avalanche-prone areas in the district. (AGENCIES)
