JAMMU, Nov 18: Fifteen food establishments were challaned today by Food Safety wing of Food & Drugs Administration (FDA), Jammu for violating Food Safety rules.
A food safety team led by Dr Parvesh Kumar, Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety Jammu along with Food Safety Officers conducted surprise inspection of Rehries in the Rehri Zone Gandhi Nagar and various provisional stores in Municipal Limit Jammu.
During the inspections, 12 samples of fruit drinks, honey, cooked food, sweetened carbonated water and coconut powder were lifted and sent to the Food Testing Laboratory Jammu for checking standard of purity. Further, 15 violators were challaned for unhygienic and insanitary conditions in cooking/processing areas and other contraventions of the FSSA 2006.
The slaughtering/butchering of live birds at three shops were stopped with immediate effect. Amongst challaned were Choudhary Chicken/Meat Shop Amphalla, Choudhary Muslim Dhaba Amphalla, Raj Rani Traders Amphalla and various Rehriwalas at Rehri Zone Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
During the drive, Dr Parvesh also made the Rehriwalas aware about good hygiene and manufacturing practices. He also instructed them to maintain proper sanitation and hygiene in their Rehris. Dr Parvesh instructed the shopkeepers to sell fresh and good quality food items to the public.
The team was comprised of Food Safety Officers Ajay Khajuria, Daleep Singh, Hans Raj Andotra and Pervaiz Ahmed.
