150 families in Dunai village at verge of starvation

SAMBA, Apr 10: As many as 150 families of the village Dunai in block Sumb of district Samba are at the verge of starvation as whatever food stock was available with them has exhausted during the last two weeks of lockdown announced after the spread of dreaded Corona Virus in the country.
All the families who were working as daily laborers to earn their living have also run short of money to purchase the food items from the market. Although the ADC Samba is Nodal Officer to arrange the supply of ration to poor people so that they will not face any problem but till date the administration has failed to reach out to these hapless families in village Dunai.
The people of this hilly belt told this reporter that after the spread of Corona Virus and the announcement of lockdown by him Prime Minister gave clear directives to all states and UTs that Government will provide free ration for three months to all poor families. He gave clear instructions to all district magistrates for providing the ration to the poor families so that they do not face any problem during the lockdown but till date no any officer of the district administration came to this village to distribute ration to the people due to which they are facing lot of problems.
This correspondent while talking with Babu Ram a resident of village Dunai said that, “We are residents of village Dunai and we are working in unorganized sector on daily basis,. Since the lockdown, we have not even gone to work and we have no money so that we can go to the market to purchase ration”, he added.
He also said that there will be around 150 families in the village who are facing lot of difficulties for want of ration. Not only this but no any officer of district administration came here to provide ration to them, he added.
Sunita Devi another resident said “Due to the lockdown necessitated after spread of Corona Virus we are not even going to work and no Government representative has yet come to our village to give any ration, due to which the entire Mohalla is not having any ration to feed their families as whatever ration was left with us has exhausted in last two weeks since announcement of lockdown.
The people of the village have appealed to DC Samba to provide ration to them without any delay and save them from starvation.
