RAJOURI, Mar 31: District Administration, Rajouri has constructed nearly 18000 toilets /Individual Household Latrines (IHHL) in several villages of 6 blocks located along Line of Control out of which nearly 15000 have been completed recently.
A total number of 17805 toilets have been constructed and handed over to families in these villages out of which 14897 IHHL have been constructed during the current year against 2908 constructed in last 3 years.
The district administration initiated a mass movement for linking every rural family with sanitation under the national flagship programme Swachh Bharat Mission under which after preliminary rounds of outreach activities a mammoth task of construction of 60,000 IHHL in short span of one month was started on March 10, 2018. A team of 1200 odd officials has been assigned task of completing 5 IHHL units each and handholding of families in rural area for behavioural change and making sanitation a habit.
The response from masses especially the women has remained overwhelming in the final stage of drive. Cooperative societies, schools, health institutions, anganwadis, NGOs, NGIs and several stakeholders have been involved under the umbrella of convergence.
During the current financial year 54195 IHHL have been completed as on 31st March 2018 against 8737 in 2016-17, 4597 in 2015-16, 2349 in 2014-15 and 115 in 2013-14. The district has achieved coverage of 67.15 % of more than 1.10 lakh household up from 16% at the beginning of financial year. More than 25,000 IHHL units have been completed during last one month and the departments have endeavours to achieve 100% coverage in April 2018.
The border belt witnessed construction of 14897 IHHL units which include 2539 in Nowshera, 3077 in Sunderbani, 914 in Qila Darhal, 2037 in Pangrain, 3765 in Manjakote and 2565 in Doongi. Nowshera, Manjakote and Doongi have constainly remained under ceasefire violation and construction of IHHL units in residential compounds will add to safety measures.
