150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi celebrated with patriotic fervour, enthusiasm

JAMMU, Oct 1: The 150th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi was celebrated with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm.
In commemoration of birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’, a week long programme under the guidance of Vice-Chancellor Dr KS Risam was celebrated at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu at Chatha and R.S. Pura campuses, wherein NSS volunteers and students actively participated in different events. During the celebration programme, quiz, painting and debate competitions among the students were organized. Besides celebrations students actively participated in the Swachhta Abhiyan inside the campuses. Dr Akhil Gupta and Dr Ankur Rastogi Organizing Secretaries alongwith judging committee evaluated the activities. Vice-Chancellor distributed prize among the winners of the Quiz (. Richa Mishra), Debate (Yashi) and Painting (Yachna Gupta). The programme ended with vote of thanks by Dr. Rajesh Katoch Dean Students’ Welfare.
Sai Shyam Educational Society celebrates Gandhi Jayanti. The programme started with the lighting of traditional lamp by Chairman of the Society CL Tickoo. The programme comprised debates, skits and national patriotic songs. A number of students of the school participated in this colourful programme. Incharge Principal of Sai Shyam Public School Anita Ganjoo threw light on the significance of Gandhi Jayanti.
The birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was celebrated at GDC for Women, Kathua by organising day long series of activities. ‘Swachh Bharat’ Mission–a cleanliness drive was organised by NSS and Eco Club of the college. Volunteers also prepared posters on cleanliness to aware students about importance of hygiene. A symposium on the topic “Hazards of Plastic” was held wherein students shared their views. The function was presided over by Principal of the college Prof RS Jamwal.
A symposium on the theme “Remembering the Mahatma: Relevance of Gandhian Philosophy in Contemporary Times”, was organised at GGM Science College Jammu to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Dr Koushal Samotra, Principal of the College was the guest of honour. Dr. Neena Gupta, Associate Professor English and Dr Rohini Chib, Associate Professor Botany judged the competition. The first position was shared by Rumeeta Sharma of PG English Sem-III and Cdt. Preeti Chib. Akanksha Sharma of PG English Sem-III stood second .The third position was shared by Urvashi Sharma of PG English Sem-I, Farzana Kouser and Vidhi Ganotra, both of PG Sem-III.
Government Degree College Marh organized slogan writing and debate completions along with cleanliness drive to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti. The program was organized by the Culture Committee of the College. Students actively participated in the program and highlighted the contribution of Father of the Nation. The theme of slogan writing was Cleanliness of Environment and topic of debate completion was Gandhian philosophy. Prizes were distributed among the winner by Assistant Professor Asha Kumari, Assistant professor Satish Kumar and Dr Amarjeet Singh.
A lecture was organised by Ranjit College of Education Rakh-Bandhuwala Kunjwani Jammu on the topic “Relevance of Mahatma Gandhi in the present day World”. Prof Anurag Gangal from Political Department, University of Jammu was special invitee. Er Manmeet singh Chairman of the college threw light on Mahatma Gandhi contribution in the society. Dr Renu Gangal Principal, RCE presented the vote of thanks.
Government SPMR College of Commerce celebrated Gandhi Jayanti. The Literary Committee in collaboration with NSS and NCC organized sharamdaan, poster making, slogan writing, essay writing symposium and took out a rally raising slogans of Swach Bharat and no to single use of plastic. Prof Anil Gupta, Principal of the college addressed the students.
GCW Bhagwati Nagar celebrated Gandhi Jayanti. The programme was conducted by the Department of EVS. The programme began with poster making and slogan writing competitions and an awareness lecture by Dr Ravinder Kumar on the topic “Ban on the use of single use plastic”. Principal of the College Prof. (Dr) Raj Shree Dhar encouraged the students to contribute towards a clean and fresh environment. Later, a rally of students, teachers and staff was taken out to create awareness among masses about the sanitation and hygiene and awaken people about hazardous effects of plastic. Group Sanjan Saini including students Sanjana Chib, Anjali Samyal and Shivani Devi was declared first in the contest, Ramneet Kour group comprising og Radhika Verma, Surbhi Dogra and Priyanka and Janvi group comprising of Riya and Shilpa Manhas were adjudged second and third respectively.
A programme was organized at Purkhoo Campus of Jamwal Group of Educational Institutions in which students of IECS Polytechnic participated in cleanliness drive under “Swach Hi Sewa Campaign” and “Say no to single use Plastic Campaign”. A debate competition was held to pay tributes to the Father of Nation. Students and faculty members spoke about the life and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi and relevance of Gandhian Philosophy in present scenario. Rashmita of Ist Sem Computer Engineering Department stood second runner up, Tanvi Chib of Ist Sem Electrical Engineering Department was first runner up and the first position was bagged by Khushboo Shali 5th Sem, a student of Computer Engineering Department.
MIER College of Education commemorated the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi by organizing a skit on the theme ‘Ädalat Mein Gandhi’ followed by remarks by Karuna Bajaj. Dr. Arun K. Gupta, Chairperson and Dr. Renu Gupta, Vice Chairperson MIER were the special guest on the occasion. Dr. Adit Gupta, Director & Principal MIER College of Education; Rupa Gupta, Joint Director, MIER; Pramod Srivastva, Principal Model Academy School; HODs of PG & UG departments along with the staff members of the college and Model Academy School attended the programme.
Bhargava College of Engineering & Technology at Samba organized a small function and paid tributes to Gandhi Ji’s on his 150th birth anniversary. Chairman of Bhargava Group and Principal BCET, Prof. M.S Baloria talked on the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi and his vision in making India cleaner and healthier.

Delhi Public School Nagbani, Jammu (West) celebrated Gandhi Jayanti by organizing a talk, a rally and a Nukkad Natak on Swachhta. A cleanliness drive was also led by the students who staged a Nukkad Natak. The students carried placards displaying messages to aware the people about cleanliness.
Delhi Public School, Leh conducted a special assembly on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. The assembly began with the floral tributes paid to the Father of Nation ‘Mahatma Gandhi’ who preached peace, truthfulness and non-violence. Principal of the School, Hardev Kaur Sidhu highlighted the importance of the day.
JK Montessorie Senior Secondary School celebrates Gandhi Jayanti with great zeal and enthusiasm. A special assembly was organized in which songs like ‘Sabarmati Ke Sant… etc were recited by the children.
To commemorate the Gandhi Jayanti and the Swachh Vidyalaya and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the students and staff of Jagriti Mission School, Talab Tillo carried out a week-long project which began on September 25, 2019. Programmes like reducing use of plastic, waste disposal, conservation of water, sanitation etc were discussed.
Maharaja Hari Singh DAV Centenary Public School Akhnoor celebrated 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi with great enthusiasm. A special assembly was organized in which variety of programmes were performed by the children. Principal of the School, Alok Betab apprised the gathering that Mahatma Gandhi is the symbol of peace and truth.

Students and staff of Shri Mahavir Jain Higher Secondary School Jammu celebrated Gandhi Jayanti. On this occasion Principal of the School, Suresh Gupta emphasized need of imbibing patriotic spirit among the students and exhorted for eradication of social evils and illiteracy from the society.
Dewan Devi Playway and Higher Secondary School, Rajpura celebrated birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri wherein the little students were told about the contributions of these great personalities. Govt Mixed Higher Secondary School, Roop Nagar, Camp Muthi celebrated Gandhi Jayanti with fervour. Principal of the School, Pushpa Bhat chaired the function while T.K Bhat, Commissioner Relief and Rehabilitation was the chief guest. The students presented many cultural programmes.
Modern Montessori International Preschool Jammu celebrated Gandhi Jayanti with great enthusiasm. The Principal of the school, Pragya Gupta highlighted the importance of Gandhi Jayanti. On this occasion, Gandhiji’s belongings- Charka, Gandhi Stick, Spectacles, Khadi, Mahatma Gandhi’s book were displayed and shown to children. Some of the students enacted as Gandhiji and spoke different slogans of Gandhiji. Children of Pre Nursery enacted as Three Monkeys of Gandhiji’s saying- “Bura mat dekho, Bura mat bolo, Bura mat suno”. Children of Pre Nursery A and B presented dance performance on “Vande Mataram”. The whole environment was filled with patriotism in their hearts. The children of Playgroup and Pre Nursery carried out Dandi March leading by Gandhiji. This was followed by Swachh Bharat Abhiyan by Nursery and Kindergarten. The Directors of School Bhavna Rohmetra and Sapna Rohmetra applauded the efforts of the school staff to make this function successful and appreciated all children for their wonderful performance.
Rich Harvest students celebrated Gandhi Jayanti. A grand fancy dress competition was organised to commemorate the occasion. The theme of the competition was freedom fighters. The event was judged by the coordinators Anita Khajuria and Shashi Jamwal. Satvik as Mahatma Gandhi, Akshiv as Narendra Modi and Pragya as Indira Gandhi received standing ovation and were unanimously declared the winners. The students of class 11th enacted a skit on the famous Dandi March. Director of the school Ruchi Charak and Principal Anita Bhatia presided over the prize distribution ceremony.
Mount Litera Zee School, Anand Nagar, Bohri celebrated Gandhi Jayanti. Er Parneesh Mahajan, Liaison Officer Harvinder Singh Sihotra, Principal Manikarnika Bhasin, Co-ordinator Radhika Mahajan, staff and students were present on the occasion. The teachers gave demonstrations regarding the occasion Gandhi Jayanti. A conceptual skit was presented by students in which they focussed on non violence, Swachch Bharat and say no to polythene bags and plastic. Children were dressed up in Gandhiji’s and Kasturba’s costumes depicting their characters. The students made carry bags from old newspapers and wrote slogans on the same. They distributed those bags among vendors in nearby market and locality.
An array of activities and programmes were held in Doon International School to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti. A special assembly was organized where students presented melodious group songs and amazing dance performances to spread the message of truth, sacrifice and dedication. A rally was taken out by students and also took part in ‘Swachh Vidyalaya Abhiyan’. Chairman GN Tantray and Principal Dr Vikesh Kaur addressed the students.
British International School Jammu celebrated Gandhi Jayanti. On the occasion, students sang peace song, followed by speech. Students also spoke about freedom fighters and also participated in slogan writing and drawing competitions. This was followed by a Dandi March. Chairperson Gita Sharma highlighted the contribution of great leaders.
SS Sodhi, Chairman J&K Intellectual Civil Society, New Delhi held a meeting with all the members of the Civil Society and offered floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, Father of Nation and Lal Bahadur Shastri former Prime Minister of India on their birth anniversaries by organizing special assembly where many VIPs, dignitaries, prominent citizens and people from all walks of life were present.
Krishi Vigyan Kendra, R.S Pura (SKUAST-J) organized a debate competition on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s life at Government High Secondary School Kaloyie Suchetgarh. The programme was organized under the guidance of Dr. K.S Risam, Vice Chancellor SKUAST-J. Dr. Rakesh Sharma, Senior Scientist; Dr. Sheetal Badyal, Scientist KVK Jammu; Dr. Prem Kumar, Scientist KVK briefed the audience about the importance of the day.
To educate children, women and society through the interactive exhibition, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is organising an exhibition on Mahatma Gandhi’s life and philosophies on his 150th birth anniversary. The exhibition is being held from October 2 to 6 wherein people can experience Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophies and life in an interactive way. The event will be designed using experiential multi-sensory techniques, light and sound shows, touch panels and LED screens.
