JAMMU, June 10: Police foiled bovine smuggling bid with the arrest of three persons from river Tawi area, falling under the jurisdiction of Nehru Market police post.
As per police sources, a police patrolling team from Nehru Market police post noticed movement of bovines and some persons in river Tawi near Bikram Chowk and rushed to the spot.
After seeing the police party, the bovine smugglers tried to escape, but were chased and arrested.
The bovine smugglers were taking the bovines to Sidhra by foot via river Tawi from where they board them into vehicle for further smuggling to Valley.
The accused have been identified as Suleman, son of Babu, Faiz-ul-Rehman alias Faji, son of Mohammad Bashir and Bilal Ahmed, son of Sai Mohammad, all residents of Belicharana. A total of 16 bovines were rescued from their possession.
A case under FIR number 117/14 under Section 188 RPC has been registered at Nehru Market police post and investigation started.
Police team headed by incharge Nehru Market police post SI Mohammad Iqbal Chagatta made the arrest under the supervision of SHO Gandhi Nagar Manzoor Ahmed Kohli, SDPO Gandhi Nagar Harjeet Singh, SP South Rahul Malik and SSP Jammu Atul Goel.
