SRINAGAR, Nov 22: Sixteen candidates filed their nomination papers from 14 constituencies of Srinagar and Anantnag districts, going to vote on December 14 while a PDP candidate’s mortar-cade was attacked by stone pelting youth when the leader was returning after filing his nomination papers this afternoon.
Aisiya Naqash of PDP and Altaf Hussain Dar, independent and Mirza Sajjad Hussain of Rashtriya Jantantric Party (RJP) filed papers today before the Returning Officer, Shabir -ul-Hassan from Hazratbal constituency represented by NC MLA Dr Mustafa Kamaal of NC today.
Two independent candidates Arshad Hussain and Shahid Ali filed their nomination papers today before the Returning Officer, Hakeem Tanveer from Zadibal constituency where NC MLA Peer Afaq is seeking re-election.
Irfan Ahmad Matoo and an independent candidate Fayaz Ahmad Bhat filed their papers today before the Returning Officer, Meraj-ud-Din from Eidgah constituency where speaker of the Assembly Mubarak Gul is seeking re-election.
The PDP candidate Khursheed Aalam filed his papers today before the Returning Officer, Dr Shamim Ahmad from Khanyar constituency where Ali Mohammad Sagar of NC is seeking re-election.
The PDP candidate Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari filed his papers today before the Returning Officer, Bilal Churched from Amira Kadal constituency. Nasir Wani is seeking re-election here.
Congress candidate Khem Lata Wakhloo filed her papers today before the Returning Officer, Aijaz Ahmad, from Sonwar constituency.  Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is contesting from this constituency and is yet to file his nomination papers from here.
In Anantnag constituency where former Chief Minister, and PDP candidate, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is seeking re-election, Hilal Ahmad Shah of Congress and an independent candidate Ghulam Rasool Dar filed their nomination papers today before the Returning Officer, Mohammad Yusuf Bhat.
Suhail Malik of People’s Conference filed his nomination papers today before the Returning Officer, Khursheed Ahmad Sania from Dooru constituency. Ghulam Ahmad Mir of Congress is seeking re-election from here.
From Pahalgam constituency where Rafi Ahmad Mir of PDP is seeking re-election, Sofi Yusuf of BJP filed his nomination papers today before he Returning Officer, Hashmat Ali Yatoo.
Mohammad Yusuf Ganai of NPP filed his nomination papers today before the Returning Officer, Ghulam Rasool Wani from Kokernag today. Peerzada Sayeed of Congress is seeking re-election from here.
From Bijbehara constituency Abdul Rehman Bhat of PDP who is seeking re-election, filed his nomination papers today before the Returning Officer, Gulzar Ahmad Bhat.
At least two PDP workers were injured and scores of their vehicles were damaged after stones were pelted at the mortar-cade of PDP candidate from Amira Kadal, Altaf Bukhari. He was returning from Returning Officer’s office in Srinagar after filing nomination papers.
As the PDP leader was passing through Maisuma area in a cavalcade leading to massive traffic jam. Several youth appeared near Budshah Bridge pelted stones on Bukhari’s cavalcade.
The situation took ugly turn when police party deployed in the area swung into action, use baton and fired tear gas shells to disperse the stone throwing youth.
The clashes continue for a long time after scores of youth from Maisuma locality joined the protests.
The PDP leader’s supporters parked their cars in the middle of road leading to SMHS and SKIMS hospitals leading to traffic jams.
