UDHAMPUR, May 14: Continuing its drive against smuggling of narcotics and psychotropic substances, Police Station Udhampur today apprehended one drug peddler and seized 16 kg of poppy straw.
The poppy straw was being smuggled in a truck, bearing registration number JK02AG-4584, which was intercepted by a Police team, led by SHO Udhampur, Chanchal Singh, under the supervision of Sahil Mahajan, DySP Hqrs. Udhampur during a naka at Jakhani Chowk, NHW.
The narcotic smuggler, identified as Gurbhez Singh, son of Sukhvinder Singh of Dera Baba Nanak Gurdaspur Punjab, who was driving the truck, was arrested on the spot.
Police seized the recovered poppy straw as well as the truck involved in the smuggling and registered a case in this connection, under section 8/15 NDPS Act at PS Udhampur. Further investigation in the case is underway.
