16 vehicles seized in Kathua, Samba districts for illegal mining

KATHUA, Aug 5: Sixteen vehicles were seized by Mining Department and Police respectively in different parts of Kathua and Samba districts today.
A team of Mining Department led by District Mineral Officer (DMO), Rajinder Singh Rana seized 10 loaded vehicles engaged in illegal mining in Khads in Kathua.
The seized vehicles reportedly belong to local miners who extract minor mineral from Khads and further make its sale in markets and in Punjab at exorbitant rates in violations of rates fixed by Deputy Commissioner and in violation of extant rules of Mining Department.
The team of Mining Department raided Ravi river, Sahar Khad and Tarnah Nallah following a tip-off in morning hours and seized vehicles. The team travelled in private vehicle and blocked the main routes leading to Khads.
As per reports police has seized six more vehicles which were being used for illegal mining in district Samba.
Police teams comprising of SHO Police Station (PS), Bari Brahmana, Sunil Sharma and In charge Police Post (PP), Rajpura, SI, Hardev Singh under the supervision of DySP ,Garu Ram, SDPO, Bari Brahmana, Rahul Nagar and Additional SP, Samba, Surinder Choudhary have seized six more vehicles being used for illegal mining at different locations in Samba district, police said.
The seized vehicles included four dumpers bearing Registration Nos.JK08M-4909,JK08M-4960, JK02CS-5551&JK08M-4909 andtwo (02) tractor trolleys bearing registration Nos. JK21D-5366 & JK21H-9864.
