JAMMU, Oct 6: Police today arrested a racketeer along with 160 bags of misappropriated Government ration in Doda district.
“In a major breakthrough, misappropriation of Government ration was worked out and one person identified as Vakar Ahmed, resident of Nai Dangri, Doda was arrested,” SSP Doda Arif Reshu said.
He said 80 quintals of misappropriated wheat packed in about 160 bags was recovered from his possession.
“Based on a tip-off that officials of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) Department posted at Food and suppliers store at Ghat, Doda, in connivance with some locals misappropriated the wheat meant for distribution among public of the area, which was taken by them from FCI godown Khelani in trucks, police conducted the raid”, Mr Reshu said.
The wheat was not taken further but sold to the accused for ulterior motives and illegal personal benefits.
A case FIR 247 of 2012 under Sections 411, 409, 407 and 109 RPC was registered and investigations are in progress, Mr Reshu said, adding that involvement of more officials cannot be ruled out in the scam.
