SAMBA, Jan 16: Samba Police successfully thwarted two separate attempts of bovine smuggling on consecutive days, rescuing 17 animals and seizing two vehicles used for their illegal transportation in the jurisdiction of Police Station Vijaypur and Police Station Ghagwal.
In the first operation, a police team led by the SHO of Police Station Vijaypur intercepted a truck (registration number JK14G-0065) during a routine vehicle-checking drive at a special naka set up in Jakh. Upon inspection, 12 bovines were found tied in a cruel manner and being transported illegally without valid documentation. The rescued animals were immediately shifted to a safer location. A case under FIR Number 08/2025, U/S 223 BNS and 11 PCA Act, has been registered at Police Station Vijaypur and an investigation is underway.
In a similar incident, the SHO of Police Station Ghagwal and his team stopped a Mahindra vehicle (registration number JK02DA-9772) for inspection at a naka established at NHW Tapyal. Five bovines being transported illegally were found inside the vehicle. The animals were rescued, and the vehicle was seized. A case under FIR Number 08/2025, U/S 223 BNS and 11 PCA Act, has been registered at Police Station Ghagwal and further investigations are ongoing.
