17 POK guests among 74 cross side on LoC

SRINAGAR :  Seventeen fresh guests from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) were among 74 persons who cross sides on the Line of Control (LoC), where infiltration attempts by militants has witnessed an increase during the past few  months.
The Karvan-e-Aman bus, operating between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad, resumed after it was cancelled on account of Eid-ul- Fitr and August 15, official sources said here today.
They said that 17 POK residents, including four women and as many children arrived at Kaman post, the last Indian military post, on this side of the LoC in Uri sector.
They said 7 Kashmiris, who had gone to POK also returned to their homes after completing stay in POK with their relatives, separated in 1947.
Sources said that only three Kashmiris, including a woman, crossed over to POK to meet their relatives.
However, 47 POK residents, who had come here in previous buses to retur to their homes after celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr here with their relatives. They included 18 women and 15 children.
The bus service introduced on April 7,2005 when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh flagged off first bus from here, has helped thousands of families divided due to partition in 1947 to meet each other.
However, POK residents and Kashmiris cross sides at a time when there are reports of increase in the infiltration attempts by militants.
Troops have killed 28 militants near the LoC and other places in the Kashmir valley during the past two months. (AGENCIES)
