18-bed Disaster Ward set up for yatris: SKIMS

Srinagar, July 16: SKIMS, Soura, today said that it has set up an 18-bed Disaster Ward equipped with necessary machinery and specialized doctors for Shri Amarnath Ji yatris.
In a statement issued here, SKIMS said the dedicated ward is outfitted with state-of-the-art medical equipment and staffed by a specialized team of doctors and nursing professionals.
Additional facilities include ventilator-equipped units in the Neuro ICU, Pulmonary ICU, and Critical Care ICU specifically designated for Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra pilgrims.
“Essential medications, dietary provisions, critical care transport, and operational helipad services further ensure comprehensive medical support,” the statement read.
SKIMS further noted that, according to Medical Superintendent Dr. Farooq A. Jan, a total of 82 critically ill yatris requiring super-specialty care have been treated at SKIMS to date, with 72 successfully discharged.
Dr. Jan highlighted the pivotal role of Telemedicine facilities and efficient Helicopter Services in managing these patients.
“These services, alongside other facilities, are instrumental in providing timely and effective care to critically ill patients referred to SKIMS,” he added.
Dr. M Ashraf Ganie, Director of SKIMS, said: “Our protocol from patient reception to discharge is designed to optimize the treatment journey. Each patient is initially assessed in our Emergency Department and subsequently transferred to specialized wards as needed.”
