JAMMU, June 12: Jagti Tenement Committee (JTC) today warned to launch agitation in case the power problem of Jagti camp was not solved to the best satisfaction of its inmates.
Talking to reporters here, today JTC president Shadi Lal Pandita said snapping power supply for 18 hours a day in the camp during this hot and humid Summer is totally a human rights violation and the camp inmates have been tolerating it for a long time now.
He said sweltering Summer heat, coupled with 18 hour power cut in a day has increased the death toll in the camp as old, infirm people and infants are unable to withstand the scorching heat.
Pandita, while making a dig at PDD authorities in general and Chief Engineer M&RE, Jammu in particular said the snapping of power supply to the camp for 18 hours is a part of big conspiracy and made it clear that Government was responsible for the mass exodus of the minority Pandits from Valley and hence it is duty bound to provide the facilities and basic amenities of life to the hapless people till restoration of their homeland to them.
Pandita said that despite the directives of the court and State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) the PDD authorities failed to solve the issue and improve power supply in the camp. If such a position will continue the Jagti camp inmates will be forced to knock the doors of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and other rights bodies all over the globe highlighting the plight before them.
Pandita said such a treatment is not even meted to the enemies which the State Government has given to the Jagti camp inmates for last two years. He said a Receiving Station was constructed adjacent to the Jagti camp for providing power supply to camp and other adjoining areas but after the migrants shifted there from different camps the power supply was kept off for 18 hours a day.
