KATHUA, Apr 5: District police today recovered poppy straw under the jurisdiction of Police Station (PS) Lakhanpur and both the accused were arrested and the contraband was seized on spot.
Police said a joint team of Anti Drug Unit Kathua along with a team of PS Lakhanpur under the supervision of SHO during naka checking duty stopped a vehicle bearing Registration Number PB06K-2925 on the basis of suspicion for checking which was being driven by Parminder Singh, son of Mohan Singh who was accompanied by the another person namely Hardeep Singh, son of Harbajan Singh hailing from Jalandhar,Punjab.
On thorough checking of the vehicle three kilograms of poppy straw like contraband was recovered and both the accused were arrested.
A case FIR No. 50/2021 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act stands registered at Lakhanpur Police Station and further investigation is under process.
Meanwhile, district police in its recent action against illegal drug dealings busted a drug smuggling racket in which one person was arrested contraband item was seized.
A team of Anti Drug Unit Kathua under the supervision of Inspector, Vishal Kumar during naka duty in the jurisdiction of PS Rajbagh noticed a suspicious person who disclosed his identity as Gurmeet Singh, S/o Mohinder Singh R/o Punjab and stopped him. Sensing danger, he tried to escape but was nabbed by the team and was frisked.
On physical search, police team was able to recover 15 kilograms of poppy straw like contraband substance from his possession.
The accused was arrested who was involved and recovered contraband was also seized by the police party.
A case FIR No. 39/2021 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act stands registered in concerned Police Station and further investigation is underway. The arrests and seizure of contraband items were made under the supervision of Dy SP, Kathua Bissham Dubey on the over all directives of SSP, Kathua Ramesh Kotwal.
