More than 18000 appear in NET

JAMMU, Dec 28:  More than 18000 candidates from the State appeared in National Eligibility Test (NET), which was held today in Jammu and Srinagar Centers.
University Grant Commission’s (UGC) National Eligibility Test (NET) is mandatory for Junior Research Fellowship and Lectureship in Indian Universities as well as colleges across the country.
For conduct of the test, 14 Centers were setup in Jammu for 55 subjects. Six centers were constituted within the Jammu University Campus and eight in the Degree Colleges and Higher Secondary Schools.
Total number of 11,160 candidates (including 36 visually challenged) was enrolled for the NET  and 9067 of them appeared in the test.  The visually challenged candidates were provided additional Braille facility along with a scribe for writing in the test. Prof Naresh Padha acted as Coordinator for the said test.  A team from CBSE was also present during the conduct.
Jammu University Vice Chancellor, Prof R D Sharma personally visited various centres of the examination for ensuring smooth conduct of the test. He also interacted with the Observers and supervisory staff on the duty.
University of Jammu is one of the Coordinating Institution in Jammu province for conduct of the NET.
Reports from Srinagar said that despite biting cold, more than 9500 candidates appeared in the NET, which was conducted in the Valley by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
This was for the first time that the NET was conducted by CBSE in Valley.  The test consisted three papers of only objective-type questions and was held in two separate sessions.
According to some aspirants, a good number of their friends could not appear in the test as they had failed to reach the exam centre on time.  The aspirants also alleged that the authorities have not made the sufficient arrangements at the exam centers including proper heating arrangements and drinking water.
