JAMMU, Apr 16: 18th Jammu District Sport Climbing Championship will be organized by Mountaineering Association of J&K in collaboration with Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Bantalab on April 26. The Jammu district competition will be followed by Udhampur, Reasi and Samba district sport climbing competitions from April 27 onwards.
About 250 climbers from various institutions of Jammu district are likely to vie for honors in the competition which may extend to the second day on April 27 in case the competitions are not completed on the first day.
The competitions to be conducted on the pre fabricated fiber glass 40ft high Tenzing Norgay Sport Climbing Wall in Sprawling Buds ICSE school premises will be held in eight categories of men, women (born in 2001, 2000 and earlier), boys, girls (born in 2002, 2003 & 2004); Sub Junior boys/girls (born in 2005 and 2006) and Mini boys/girls (born in 2007 and after), whereas men, women, boys and girls will compete both in ‘lead climbing’ and ’speed climbing’ Sub Junior boys/girls and Mini boys and girls will participate in ‘lead climbing’ only.

On the spot registration will also be done at Sprawling Buds ICSE School from 7.30 am to 8 am on April 26. However, the Association has decided not to allow zonal medalists for this district level competition so as to pave way for the budding climbers to come up.
Shawetica Khajuria, an international judge in sport climbing will be the President of the Jury of the competition, while Sonam Sidharth is the Organising Secretary. However, technical and logistic support will be provided by Indian Mountaineering Foundation North Zone Committee, New Delhi. The championship has been sponsored by J&K State Sports Council.
