Srinagar, Apr 28: Kashmir today reported the highest ever COVID-19 deaths as 19 people succumbed to the virus here at various hospitals while 2034 tested positive.
Nineteen people who were admitted to various hospitals in Kashmir with COVID-19 infection died today. With these fresh deaths, the death toll in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 2,227 and the active cases continue to increase while the recovery rate is decreasing with each passing day.
Those who died today of COVID-19 include an 85-year-old man from Gori Mohalla Brein Nishat in Srinagar. He was admitted at SKIMS Soura in Srinagar and passed away last night.
Two persons aged 70 and 65 years respectively from Chendilora and Kunzer areas of Tangmarg in district Baramulla also died at SKIMS Soura today.
A 75-year-old man from Badamwari area of Hawal in district Srinagar and a 76-year-old man from Zakura area of Srinagar also died due to the virus.
A 58-year old woman from Bal Garden area of Srinagar, who was admitted today with T2DM, HTN C B/L CAP, died at SMHS hospital today.
A 60-year-old woman from Chanapora area of Srinagar died at SKIMS hospital in Bemina, a day after she was admitted to the health facility.
An 80-year-old man from Gousiya Colony Kanispora in district Baramulla died at Indoor Stadium Baramulla, five days after he was admitted there.
A 70-year-old man from Tangmarg in district Baramulla also died in Indoor Stadium Baramulla.
A 75-year-old woman from Nowshehra area of Srinagar died at CD Hospital Srinagar during intervening night of April 27 and 28.
A 50-year-old woman who works at Arts Emporium from Tengpora area of Batamaloo in district Srinagar died at the CD hospital.
Three persons succumbed to the virus at JLNM hospital Srinagar and the victims include a 62-year-old woman from Nawakadal area of Srinagar, a 65-year-old from Pampore in Pulwama district and a 45-year-old from Palpora area of Srinagar.
Three deaths were reported at GMC Anantnag and the victims include a 65-year-old from Hiller, 69-year-old from KP Road, and 63-year-old man from Anantnag.
Those who tested positive include 951 from Srinagar, 246 Baramulla, 199 Budgam, 82 Pulwama, 79 Kupwara, 160 Anantnag, 59 Bandipora, 54 Ganderbal, 145 Kulgam and 59 from Shopian.
The number of cases in Kashmir has reached 101,749 including 85,582 recoveries and 1,372 deaths.
The number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 24,313 including 14,795 from Kashmir division.
With 963 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 142,537, which is 84.30 percent of the total cases.

Jamia Masjid Srinagar suspends congregational prayers

Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar today suspended all congregational prayers at the Jamia Masjid Srinagar for the time being for the safety of the people.
In a statement, it said that police officials visited Jamia Masjid this morning and asked the Auqaf to suspend all congregational prayers at the Jamia Masjid as Section 144 has come into effect.
“In view of the rapid spread of COVID-19, although all SOPs were being strictly adhered to during prayers, Anjuman has decided to suspend all congregational prayers at the mosque for the time being for the safety of namazis,” the statement said.
The Wakf Board today said that it has limited number of worshippers the religious place.
The board appealed people to offer prayers at home in wake of the spurt in the COVID-19 cases in Jammu and Kashmir.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Wakf Board, Mufti Muhammad Farid-ud-Din said that there has been no order regarding the closure of the Masjids and shrines by the board.
“All the religious clerics have been asked to ensure that only a limited number of Nimazis should offer prayers at the religious places,” he said.
“However, I have appealed people to offer prayers at home to stay healthy,” he said.
The Shiite religious scholars have joined hands and appealed people to avoid congregational gatherings and follow COVID-19 related guidelines in letter and spirit.
Both factions of Anjuman Shari Shian led by Aga Syed Hasan and Aga Syed Hadi and Majlis Ulema Imamia Jammu and Kashmir that is an amalgam of multiple Shiite Associations have asked people to stay away from large religious gatherings on coming Shab-e-Qadar. They have cancelled Friday congregational prayers till the effect of pandemic recedes.
They have also appealed people not to be part of processions taken out every year on 21 Ramadhan on the eve of martyrdom anniversary of Hazrat Ali (RA). Besides Youm-e-Qudus gatherings have been suspended as well.
