19 more test positive for Dengue, figure crosses 50 mark

JAMMU, Oct 6: A total of 19 patients from various districts of Jammu province were today found to be positive for Dengue virus. With these 19 fresh cases, the total number of patients affected with Dengue in Jammu region has crossed the mark of 50.
According to Dr BS Pathania, Director Health Jammu, a record 19 patients were today found to be affected with this vector-borne disease taking the total number of people affected with the disease to 52. Elaborating more he said that out of these 19 Dengue affected people, six belong to Kathua district, 11 to Jammu district and one each belongs to Doda and Samba districts.
He further disclosed that out of these 19 patients, 13 are male and six females. He further added that out of these 19 people, seven are children while 12 are adult.
Dr Pathania said that out of these 19 Dengue patients none was serious. However, majority of the patients returned to their home after successful treatment at various hospitals in Jammu Province and only some of them are under treatment.
He further revealed that most of the cases of Dengue have been reported from rural areas, as they are in the habit of storing water in open drums and other utensils, which are breeding ground for larvae.
To support his claim, he said, “Recently our team visited a remote village of Kathua district namely Nerath after two cases of Dengue were reported from there. On visiting the village out team found larvae in the water stored by the villagers in open drums and other utensils”.
“Besides, doing fogging and spraying in the village, our team also made the villages aware about Dengue, its symptoms, causes and also required precautions”, he added.
Dr Pathania said that a health advisory has been already issued by the Centre which has been widely published in local dailies to create awareness among people about the disease.
“People need to take precautions to save themselves from mosquito bites”, he said and appealed the people to desist from storing water in open drums and pots, which are breeding ground for larvae.
He claimed that the Health Department is fully equipped to treat patients suffering from dengue, adding that no hospital in the region has so far received any patient whose sickness has taken dangerous proportion.
