LEH, Feb 21: Commissioner Secretary UT Ladakh Rigzin Samphel inaugurated the 1st Winter Conclave 2020 today on the occasion of Dosmochey Festival.
Commissioner Secretary was accompanied by Tsewang Motup of RIMO Expeditions (Padma Shri Awardee) and President Ladakh Buddhist Association Leh PT Kunzang.
Several cultural performances from different regions of Ladakh were showcased during the inaugural function at main market.
The 3-day winter conclave is being organised by the Administration of Union Territory of Ladakh in collaboration with its partners.
Later in the evening, interactive sessions was organized where Executive Councillor Agriculture LAHDC Leh Phuntsog Stanzin, Vice-Chancellor University of Ladakh C Phuntsog, IGP Ladakh SS Khandare, Deputy Commissioner Leh Sachin Kumar, King Jigmet Namgyal, President LGA Shadup Chamba, President LBA PT Kunznag, Vice President Christian Association Sonam David, Councillors LAHDC Leh, experts from tourism, film and allied sectors were present.
Commissioner Secretary talked in detail on the importance of promoting winter tourism in Ladakh. He also talked about the efforts of the UT Administration to explore the un-named tourist destinations of the region, keeping in mind the importance of its fragile ecology, environment, tangible and intangible factors of the region.
Tsewang Motup of RIMO Expeditions pondered upon the hidden potentials of the region of Ladkah. Motup also talked on the paramount importance of sustainable tourism.
The King of Stok Palace, Gyapo Jigmet Namgyal stressed on preservation, conservation and survival of the fragile eco-system of Ladakh. He further added that the Ladakhi culture, arts, scripts and other traditional values shall be preserved for posterity.
Personalities such as renowned film maker Rakesh Om Prakash Mehra also spoke on the occasion.
General Secretary of All Ladakh Tour Operators’ Association (ALTOA) Leh Delex Namgail, General Secretary of All Kargil Tour and Travel Association (AKTTA) Zahir Bagh and others also shared their views and suggestions through power-point presentations. It was followed by an interactive session.
The evening witnessed traditional and contemporary cultural programmes by the young performers from both Leh and Kargil districts of Ladakh.
