JAMMU, Apr 29: First total knee replacement surgery was performed in Government Gandhi Nagar Hospital, Jammu.
A 62-year-old woman was suffering from severe arthritis of both the knees for last more than 10 years and she went through different types of treatments in and outside the State. Due to advanced nature of arthritis, she was advised knee replacement surgery by Dr Kanav Padha, Consultant Orthopaedics and Joint Replacement Surgeon, Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar.
The surgery was performed recently by Dr Padha with latest technology with minimal blood loss and minimal incision. Hence patient was made to walk the next day with walker and patient is fully satisfied with the outcome. Anaesthesia was given by Dr Laughi and Dr Anu.
Dr Padha has done advanced joint replacement fellowship from Coimbatore Tamil Nadu. He said that joint replacement surgeries are routinely performed in our state in Government and private set ups at much lower cost and it is also convenient for the patient as these surgeries require regular follow up. He also said that people need not to venture outside the State for these operations.
Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, Dr Chander Prakash, said that these and other costly surgeries are routinely being performed free of cost in Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar under Ayushman Bharat scheme if the beneficiary is registered and possesses the required health card.
