2.5 kg heroin worth crores recovered at LoC

POONCH, Jan 10: In a major breakthrough against narco terrorism, the security forces today recovered 2.5 kilograms of heroin worth crores in the international market, from Degwar village near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district.
Official sources said that on specific inputs, Army, J&K Police and Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) team launched a joint search operation near Line of Control in Degwar- Terwan area near the LoC.
During intensive search operation, the team spotted three packets of heroin like substance concealed in the bushes in the nearby fields at the village. The consignment weighing about 2.5 Kg, worth crores of rupees in the international market was recovered and seized. The area was further searched by the security forces after recovery.
A senior police officer said that the recovery was made in an open area from the bushes near the local Animal Husbandry dispensary. It has been believed that this consignment was smuggled into this side of the LoC by the cross-border smugglers, having their network on this side.
A case has been registered with Narcotics Control Bureau vide FIR number 01/2024 under relevant sections and the investigation was further taken up to unearth the linkages of the narcotic smugglers on this side of the LoC.
