FEROZEPUR, June 30: A consignment of 2.7 kg of heroin was seized from an area near Border Out Post (BOP) Kassoke in Punjab’s Ferozepur sector in a joint operation by the Punjab Police and the BSF today.
Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Counter Intelligence (CI) Wing of Punjab Police, Narinder Pal Singh Sidhu, said the operation was launched following a tip off that alleged drug peddler Surjit Singh alias Jitan, a resident of Bhane Wala village, will be receiving a consignment of drugs.
The CI wing personnel raided Singh’s place and took him into custody, Sidhu said.
Later, a joint special search operation was carried out with the help of BSF troopers from the BOP Kassoke, the AIG added.
Five packets of heroin were recovered from fields near the border, Sidhu said, adding that the consignment was concealed in a tubewell pipe.
“Singh was in touch with Pakistani smugglers through social media,” Sidhu added.
He used to retrieve the drug consignments from the designated places while working as a labourer in the fields, Sidhu said. (PTI)
