2.75 lakh candidates empanelled in last 3 years: MoS Railways

NEW DELHI, Dec 22:
The Government today informed the House that large-scale recruitments were made in the last three years by 21 Railway Recruitment Board (RRBs) and 16 Railway Recruitment Cells (RRCs).
This was stated by Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha, in a written reply to a question, in the Lok Sabha.
According to the Minister, more than 40 examinations were conducted and about 2.75 lakh candidates empanelled. The Minister also admitted that it has also received reports of alleged malpractice from RRBs-Kolkata, Ranchi, Bangalore, Northeast Frontier Railway, South Central Railway, South Eastern Railway and South Western Railway.
Administrative or disciplinary action, as was appropriate in the individual case, has been taken against the officials concerned, the Minister stated.
He said that written examination of RRC, Eastern Railway that took place on November 30 (both session) have been cancelled and re-examination proposed.
To another question, Mr Sinha said that there were no direct contract labourers working on the rolls of Railways. He said that Railways resort to contract labour only in respect of non-core activities in different departments. The number of such workers is decided by the contractor. The contractors pay minimum wages as notified by the Central or State Governments under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948, Mr Sinha informed. (UNI)
