SRINAGAR, Oct 5 :Two National Conference workers, one of them a Personal Assistant (PA) with party’s legislator from Habba Kadal, Shamima Firdous, were shot dead by militants and another was injured in Habba Kadal area of Srinagar city this morning.
Militants opened fire at the trio when they were sitting in the butchers shop in Karfali Mohalla in Habba Kadal area. The militants fled after carrying out the attack leaving them in a pool of blood. They were immediately removed to nearby SMHS hospital where two of them were declared as brought dead. Click here to watch video
They were identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, resident of Kani Kadal and Nazir Ahmad Wani. Wani son of Ghulam Mohammad Wani, resident of Pamposh Colony Noorbagh was PA with the legislator while two others were her close aides. The injured has been identified as Shakeel Ahmad.
Senior police officers immediately reached the spot and entire area was searched but the militants had fled away. Soon after the attack check points were established across Srinagar and outgoing vehicles were being searched. However, no one was arrested.
A police spokesman said that militants killed two civilians in the interiors of Srinagar city known as Karfali Mohalla today. “In this incident, three civilians sustained injuries and were evacuated to nearby hospital for medical attention,” the spokesman said. “However, among the injured, two persons Nazir Ahmad Wani and Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat succumbed. Another injured civilian Shakeel Ahmad is stated to be stable”, he said.
Police have registered a case and initiated investigation into the matter, he said.
Meanwhile, an Over Ground Worker (OGW) of militants, who was arrested four days back in Sopore, fled from Police Station Sopore this afternoon.
Mehraj Ud Din Khan alias Marouf of New Colony Sopore escaped from police custody from Police Station Sopore.
Mehraj Ud Din Khan, an OGW, was arrested four days back by Sopore police during a naka and police was investigating his role in militancy.
A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan was injured in a militant attack in Tral area of Pulwama today.
Militants hurled a grenade on 180 Battalion of CRPF headquarter at Tral-Bala in Tral town of Pulwama district. One CRPF personnel was injured in the attack.
Unidentified persons lobbed a petrol bomb at the residence of Congress Party worker and candidate for Municipal polls, Irshad Ahmad Wani, in Hajin area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district this evening.
Wani is contesting from Ward No. 2 and Ward No. 5 in Hajin Municipality.
However, in the attack no loss of life or injury was reported. The area was cordoned off to nab the attackers.
