2 Baramulla residents nabbed with heroin worth Rs 1 crore

JAMMU, July 30: Moving ahead with its mission to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Gangyal police under ‘Operation Sanjeevani’ smashed a drugs trafficking racket operating from cross LoC by arresting two residents of bordering Baramulla District of Kashmir along with Pakistan smuggled 250 grams of heroin worth Rs 1 crore in the international market.
As per police sources, on routine checking near Kunjwani, a team from Gangyal Police Station headed by SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas and assisted by SHO Gangyal SI Nayat Ali and Incharge Greater Kailash Police Post SI Vicky Thappa under the supervision of Incharge SP South Vinay Kumar and SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta signaled a Santro car bearing registration number JK05B-3363 to stop for checking.
Instead of stopping the vehicle, the driver accelerated the car and escaped from the spot. Stinking something fishy, the cops intercepted the vehicle after a brief chase.
During checking, police recovered 250 grams of heroin valuing Rs 1 crore in the international market from the possession of two persons travelling in the car and arrested them.
The arrested persons have been identified as Javed Ahmed Shah, son of Abdul Razaak Shah and Mudassar Ahmed War, son of Fayaz Ahmed War, both residents of District Baramulla, a bordering district along Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir.
During preliminary questioning, the accused disclosed that they had brought the consignment from Srinagar, which was pumped in from Pakistan side for selling among the youth in Jammu and its surrounding areas so as to ruin the future of younger generation.
With their arrest, police not only smashed the drug trafficking racket operating from cross LoC, but also saved the youth from becoming drug addicts.
A case under FIR Number 65/18 under Section 8/21/22 Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Gangyal Police Station and investigation started to arrest other members of the racket.
