JAMMU, June 18: Northern Railway authorities today cancelled two trains operating between Jammu- Kolkata and Jammu-Guwahati via Bihar due to violence in that State over Agnipath Scheme of the Union Government.
A Northern Railway spokesman said that Jammu-Kolkata Express (Train No. 13152) and Amarnath Express operating between Jammu Tawi and Guwahati in Assam (Train No. 15654), were cancelled at Jammu station today due to violence in Bihar. Both these trains pass through Bihar State. The violent mob burnt several trains in Bihar opposing Agnipath Scheme of the BJP Government.
Huge rush of the passengers was reported at Jammu Railway Station today due to cancellation of these two trains. A large number of them included Defence personnel going on leave to their homes besides labourers from Bihar State. The GRP and RPF worked diligently and vigorously to help the affected passengers by setting up helpdesks, settle refunds or by accommodating them in some other trains. Extra staff was deployed by the Railway authorities to set up additional counters for helping over 3000 stranded passengers.
