POONCH, Feb 1: In a significant breakthrough against vehicle theft, Poonch Police today apprehended two individuals involved in a series of motorcycle thefts, leading to the recovery of three stolen bikes and one car.
The arrests were made following a well-coordinated operation based on specific intelligence inputs, a police official said.
While providing further information he said that acting on a credible information, a special naka was laid at Sangala Chowk at Mendhar by police where vigilant police personnel initiated thorough checks on passing vehicles. During the operation, two youth were intercepted while riding a motorcycle without a registration number plate.
Upon being stopped, both individuals were asked to produce valid documents pertaining to the motorcycle; however, they failed to present any such documents, raising immediate suspicion.
The suspects were subjected to sustained questioning, during which they confessed to have stolen the motorcycle from Pathaana Teer area. Upon further interrogation, they disclosed their identities as Sameer Khan, son of Mohd Azam Khan, resident of Dharana, in tehsil Mendhar and Imtiaz Hussain, son of Mohd Taj, a resident of Salwah, presently residing at Gohlad, Mendhar.
Subsequent to their confession, the police conducted follow-up operations based on the information provided by the accused, which resulted in the recovery of two additional motorcycles, one bearing registration number JK12B- 3394 and second without number plate.
One Hyundai i10 car, bearing registration number 2199, which is suspected to be linked to criminal activities was also recovered. .
The swift action by the police not only led to the recovery of stolen property but also highlighted the efficiency of intelligence-based operations.
