JAMMU, July 27: Two new books of Dogri, ‘Bhav Sagar’, a collection of poems by veteran poet and singer Parduman Singh Jandrahia and ‘Banna’ by Shiv Mehta, a well known writer and theatre and television personality, were released in a function organized by Dogri Sanstha at K L Saigal Hall.
Anjali Sharma, Incharge Director of Akaashwani Kendra, Jammu was the chief guest on this occasion.
Special highlight of the programme was a tastefully presented musical renderings of the poems of Jandrahia by the next generation members of his family and by young artistes of Sarswati Sangeet Kala Mandir. A large number of writers, music lovers and prominent citizens were present in this function.
Anjali Sharma, while speaking on the occasion, said that Jandrahia is a living legend and all his close contemporaries should feel proud to have shared part of their lives with him. She said he is an outstanding folk singer and exceptionally gifted artiste the like of whom are rarely born.
She also complemented and congratulated Shiv Mehta, who has multidimensional personality and in his new avatar of short story writer has excelled and created a niche for him among best short story writers of Dogri.
Senior Dogri writers, Om Goswami and Susheel Begana presented insightful and thought provoking papers on the books of both authors.
Earlier Prof Lalit Magotra, president Dogri Sanstha, in his welcome address said that both the authors whose books were released, in addition to being writers of great caliber are also exceptionally gifted artistes.
Magotra took the opportunity to share with the audience that very soon Dogri Comic Books will be available in market and work on Dogri website is also in progress. Both these projects are funded by Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.
The programme was conducted by Prof Veena Gupta, general secretary of Dogri Sanstha who also thanked the audience at the conclusion of the programme.
