Pall of gloom descends on RS Pura village

JAMMU, July 11: In a horrendous accident, two brothers along with their wives (who were sisters also) belonging to R S Pura area of Jammu were among five persons who lost their lives in a head-on collision between two cars at Bhojpur in Jallandhar area of adjoining Punjab State this morning.
The tragedy shell-shocked the children of both the brothers soon after they received the information about the accident within hours of their parents’ departure as the deceased had promised to return by late in the evening after attending condolence meeting of their relative in Punjab.
The accident took place when the car driver lost control over the vehicle, which jumped the median strip, crossed over to the other side and then rammed into another vehicle coming from the opposite direction. The impact of the collision was such that the bodies of the occupants got stuck in the mangled vehicle and lot of efforts had to be made to extricate them.
The deceased have been identified as Dev Raj (Retd ZEO), son of Sai Dass of Chakroi, Tehsil RS Pura, district Jammu, his wife Lajwanti, brother Darshan Lal and his wife Raj Kumari and Sunil Kumar (driver), son of Romesh of Chakroi, Tehsil RS Pura, district Jammu.
Dev Raj and Darshan Lal are survived by two sons and one daughter. Dev Raj retired from Education Department as Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) while Darshan Lal was working in Animal Husbandry Department.
For entire day, the children of deceased remained shell-shocked as they were not in a position to go to the spot of accident to take the bodies of their parents. Instead of receiving parents in the evening as was promised destiny made them to receive their bodies.
A pall of gloom descended on the entire village when all the five bodies reached there late in the evening. The last rites will be performed tomorrow morning. Both the deceased brothers and their wives were known for their cordial relations with the villagers.
According to the family members, all the four deceased had gone to attend the mourning function of their relative, who passed away recently but it was beyond imagination of everybody that destiny has something horrendous in store for them.
