MENDHAR, July 9: Two children were drowned in local river while third was rescued by locals when they had gone for bathing in the river at Mehndar town in Poonch district this evening.
Official sources said that incident took place at around 5.30 pm on Saturday when 9-year-old Azhar, his 7 year old sister Rifat Kousar, children of Sarfraz Ahmed Fauji and 8-year-old Aaila, daughter of Liaqat, residents of Mender had gone to the river site near Dakki bridge. The children started bathing. Some youth noticed this and they ran towards the children, while boy was rescued both the girls were drowned.
Later, family members, relatives and police besides many people reached the river site and launched search operation but two girls could not be traced till late this evening. The army divers help was being sought to trace the children.
