2 civilians succumb; hideout busted

SRINAGAR, Nov 24: A 14-year-old girl was among two civilians, who had sustained injuries in two separate incidents, succumbed to their injuries at Srinagar today while security forces busted a militant hideout and militants hurled a grenade at the Panch candidate in South Kashmir.
The duo who succumbed to injuries have been identified as Muskan Jan of Wangud- Qoimoh and Ishfaq Ahmad, son of Nazir Ahmad Ganie of Magraypora Budgam.
Muskan was critically injured in a shootout in Khudwani area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Thursday morning. However, after battling for life for two days, the injured girl succumbed today at Srinagar’s SMHS hospital.
Police had earlier said that militants fired several shots at an Army camp stationed in a part of Rice Research Institute of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology (SKUAST) campus at Khudwani in the wee hours on Thursday. “The Army soldiers retaliated, leading to a brief exchange of fire. Muskan was unfortunately caught in crossfire and sustained bullet injury,” reports quoting police said. Muskan was later shifted to a sub-district hospital in Qoimoh where from she was referred to SMHS hospital in Srinagar for treatment”, police said. However, Muskan succumbed to her injuries today.
Meanwhile, a civilian from Central Kashmir’s Budgam district who had sustained bullet injuries in a firing incident near an Army camp in Chattergam area last night died at SKIMS Soura today.
Locals blamed Army for the firing but Army blamed militants for his killing. Army said that their party reached the spot after hearing gun shots where they found a civilian there who was fired upon by the militants.
Security forces today busted a militant hideout in Panzgam village of Awantipora area in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Police said security forces busted a hideout of Islamic State of Jammu and Kashmir (ISJK) militant outfit during a joint operation by Police and Army’s 55 Rashtriya Rifles.
Police said that the hideout seems to be very old. “War like stores besides some utensils, eating commodities and few blankets were recovered,” police said.
Militants this evening hurled a grenade at the residence of Surinder Singh son of Naseeb Singh, a resident of Padibal area of Devar village in Tral town of Pulwama district in South Kashmir. The grenade missed the target and caused no damage. Security forces cordoned off the area and a manhunt has been launched to nab to the assailants. Singh recently submitted nomination papers for Panch in the Panchayat election.
And South Kashmir today observed a shutdown to mourn the killings of six militants killed in a gunfight with the security forces in Bijbehara area of Anantnag on Friday.
The shutdown was observed in Shopian, Kulgam, Anantnag and Pulwama. Shops and other business establishments remained closed and traffic was off the roads.
On Friday, six local militants identified as Azad Ahmed Malik of Arwani Bijbehara, Basit Ahmad Mir of Pushwara Anantnag affiliated with LeT, Atif Nazar of Waghama, Firdous Ahmad of Pulwama, Unais Shafi Bhat of Takiya Maqsood Shah Bijbehara and Shahid Malik from Awantipora affiliated with Hizbul Mujhadeen were killed in Sekipora Bijbehara encounter.
