Srinagar, Nov 19: The two-day student festival ‘Yusuf té Zareen’ commenced today at the Government College for Women, M.A. Road, Srinagar.
The event is being organized in association with the Tourism Department, White Globe NGO, and Chinar Corps.
The Drama Club and Debating Committee of the host college have curated a diverse range of programs to be attended by students and staff from various educational institutions, the organizers said.
Nodal Principal, Prof. Seema Naz, presided as the chief guest at the inaugural function.
Other notable attendees included Deputy Director Tourism (Media & Publicity) Deeba Khalid, Additional Secretary Law (Tourism) Narjees Nawab, Chairman of White Globe NGO Syed Junaid Saadat, Major Charanjeet Singh from 31 Sub Area of Chinar Corps, and former Principal of the college, Prof. Ruhi Jan Kanth. The inaugural ceremony, held at the college auditorium, featured captivating song-and-dance performances by students on lively Kashmiri, Ladakhi, and Punjabi numbers.
The highlight of the event was an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, titled ‘Yusuf té Zareen,’ performed by the college’s Drama Club. The performance received a standing ovation from the enthralled audience.
Earlier, welcoming the guests, In-charge Principal Prof. Rubeena said the event aims to showcase the creativity and talent of students.
She noted that the two-day fest includes a variety of programs, such as engaging drama and theatre performances, vibrant cultural showcases, food stalls, gaming competitions, and other creative and interactive activities.
