2-day folk dance & music festival inaugurated in GCW Parade

JAMMU, Aug 13: Two-day folk dance and music festival ‘Dharein Dhurhan Payeeya’ organized by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) in collaboration with Government College for Women (GCW), Parade, was inaugurated today by Prof Anju Bhasin, Vice Chancellor, Cluster University, Jammu, in the auditorium of GCW Parade.
Prof Hemla Aggarwal, Principal, GCW, Prade and Dr Arvinder Singh Amn, Additional Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages were also present in the presidium.
While speaking on the occasion, Prof Anju Bhasin, who was the chief guest on the occasion, complimented all the participating folk parties from remote and rural areas of the Jammu region for their memorable performances. She said that organizing such events as a collaboration with educational institutions will also provide the space to the youth to interact with the rich old folk and tradition and also aware them to realize the importance and relevance in our present life style.
Earlier, while welcoming the distinguished guests, students and teaching and non teaching faculty members, Prof Hemla Aggarwal said, it is a good opportunity for the student community to interact with the dying folk forms and to understand the importance of rich tradition of Dogra folk music and dances.
While addressing the students and the audience, Dr Arvinder Singh Amn informed that JKAACL decided to organize such events for youth and students in particular to bridge the gap between the real folk performers and the young generation.
Vijay Attri, eminent artist and former Assistant Dean, Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu, conducted the proceedings of the programme in a befitting manner while Bishan Dass, Assistant Cultural Officer, JKAACL, presented vote of thanks.
The folk parties who performed include Ashok Kumar and Party (Mashedy) from Ghandtop Ramnagar, Ramditta and Party (Geetru) from Kishanpur Manwal, Lajwanti and Party (Bakh) from Jibthathi Udhampur, Girdari Lal and Party (Bhagatian) from Arnia, Chandu Ram and Party (Mashedy) from Basoli and Mukhtyar Singh and Party (Kud dance) from Sujandhar Reasi.
