SRINAGAR, Mar 10: A two-day international conference on Silk Route began today at the University of Kashmir.
The conference ‘Silk Route as a Factor in Asian Integration’, has been organized by the University’s Centre of Central Asian Studies (CCAS), in collaboration with MMAJ Academy of International Relations, Jamia Millia Islamia New Delhi and Bedil International Foundation, New Delhi.
Vice-Chancellor KU, Prof Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi presided over the inaugural session. In his presidential address, he highlighted the significance of Silk Route and its importance.
Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz, former Union Minister, was the chief guest on the occasion and delivered the inaugural address.
Former Ambassador of India to Sweden, Letvia and Kazakhstan, Ashok Sajjanhar presented the keynote address, highlighting the contemporary significance of Silk Route and India’s contribution in its revival.
Chairman Bedil International Foundation New Delhi, Mohammad Shafi Pandith delivered a special address on the occasion.
Director CCAS, Prof G N Khaki introduced the theme of the conference and formally welcomed the participants from different parts of the country as well as aboard. Dr G M Shah, Seminar Coordinator, MMAJ Academy of International Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, gave an outline of the themes to be discussed during the two-day deliberations. Dr Tareak A Rather presented the vote of thanks.
