2-day mega event concludes at GCET

JAMMU, Sept 16: The two-day mega event organized by the Government College for Engineering and Technology (GCET) on the occasion of 46th Engineers’ Day concluded today.
IGP Jammu, Rajesh Kumar was the chief guest on the occasion and while addressing the valedictory function, he emphasized the services of M Visvesvaraya to national development and to the cause of engineering in India. He also congratulated the winners of the project model display and paper presentation events.
Speaking on the occasion, GCET Principal, Dr Sameru Sharma highlighted the aim of organizing such a mega event for the first time in the college.
The students of various engineering colleges from North India like MNIT Jaipur, NIT Jalandhar, NIT Kurukshetra, GNDU Amritsar, Kashmir University, SSM College Srinagar, BGSBU Rajouri, MIET and GCET Jammu displayed their projects and innovative ideas during the event.
The students also presented technical papers on the theme “Convergent Technologies for inclusive growth and sustainable development”.
In the project/model display category, GCET Jammu bagged the first prize for project “Solar Lawn Mover”. It is eco-friendly, electro-mechanical project which uses solar energy as main source for its working. It also reduces the manual force considerably.
SSM Engineering College, Srinagar won the second prize for the project “UID based stolen car checking” and SMVDU Katra bagged third prize for project “sterling engine”. MNIT Jaipur bagged the consolation prize for project “cable stayed bridge”.
In the paper presentation category, Hafsa from MIET bagged first prize, Lalit Kumar of GNDU Amritsar second and Abhinandan Singh from GCET third prize. Ishfaq Rehman from GCET Jammu bagged consolation prize.
The event turned out to be a grand success with each and every participating company and Public Sector Undertakings of Government of India appreciating the quality of engineering education being imparted in the institution and assured to carry out campus placement drives in near future.
The event, which was organized at such a large scale for the first time, shot the GCET to fame across the country and would help the students passing out from this institution in getting placements.
