JAMMU, Nov 20: Two-day national Vedic seminar on the theme ‘Concept of Ethics in Vedic Literature in the Contemporary Context’ concluded at Shri Ranbir Campus of Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan at Kot Bhalwal, here today.
Jammu University Vice-Chancellor Prof R D Sharma was chief guest on the occasion. Prof Om Parkash Pandey, former HoD Sanskrit, University of Lucknow and Prof Rajeshwar Prasad Mishra of the Department of Sanskrit, Aligarh Muslim University were the guest of honour and special guest, respectively while Prof Ramanuja Sevanathan, Principal of the Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansdthan, presided over the function.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof R D Sharma stressed the need to address the problems of present scenario with the help of Vedic ethics. He said that the kind of interaction of scholars, that was witnessed in the two-day national seminar on the Vedas, is the need of the hour through which we can provide answer to the erosion of the ethics and moral values in today’s world.
Prof Om Parkash Pandey, in his address, pointed out that most of the information on the Vedas has come from the Western scholars who had no respect for those works of wisdom from ancient India. “The Vedas should be made simple, be brought within the reach of the common man and included in the curriculum,” he stressed.
Prof Rajeshwar Prasad Mishra sought to explain the ethical concepts enshrined in the Vedas with quotes from the Vedas,
In his presidential address, Prof Ramanuja Devanathan said that most appropriate way of teaching the Vedic ethics is by personal example only. “The teacher should model his life on the ethical values enshrined in the Vedas and make those values his shine forth in the personal behaviour so that the students look upon him as a real role model and follow his example in their own life,” he added.
