2-day seminar on higher education begins

JAMMU, May 21: Two-day national seminar, sponsored by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) on “Higher Education Realities Challenges, Trends & Priorities”, took off   at Government College for Women (GCW), Parade    here today.
Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, Jammu Prof. Mohan Paul Singh Ishar inaugurated the seminar with participation of a large number of college teachers of Jammu and Kashmir and neighbouring states.
During the two day seminar, eight to ten sessions will be held wherein 59 participants from J&K, Haryana, Punjab & Himachal will present papers.
The objective of the two-day seminar is to provide a forum for exploring and sharing initiatives, concerns, realities, challenges, trends and priorities of higher education to identify emerging implications and to explore the  possibilities of meaningful adoption of teaching strategies and evaluation techniques in the higher education in J&K.
Addressing the delegates, Vice Chancellor laid stress on the practical based training of the teaching faculty and use of modern teaching technologies. He also called upon the teachers to understand their responsibility and present themselves as role models for the students.
The Vice Chancellor also stressed on inclusion of moral education in the routine academic curriculum. He called upon the delegates to be attentive   during the two day seminar and put the knowledge gained to the use in the class room.
B.S Ponmundiraj, Regional Coordinator (North) in his keynote address threw light on the theoretical aspect of the seminar and dealt in detail with the trends of Higher Education System.
Earlier, Dr. Hemla Aggarwal, Principal Government College for Women Parade Jammu  in her welcome address emphasized that technological revolution has opened possibilities for new horizons, new methods of teaching & new model of educational delivering system.
The sub topics of the seminar were quality, issues and concerns in Higher Education, the present scenario of teacher education in J&K, developing best practices for quality assurance in higher education, curriculum transactional strategies and evaluation technologies in teacher education, professional development for teacher education: role of action research, importance of IT in education, library service and their effective use, teacher appraisal by students, role of teacher educators in improving school education, research needs in teacher education: Qualitative & Quantitative.
Prof. Ramesh Chander Principal MAM College, Jai Kumar Special Assistant to Vice Chancellor were also present on the occasion.
Dr. Sandhya Bhardwaj coordinated the seminar, Prof. Sonia compared the proceedings and Prof Rakesh delivered vote of thanks.
