JAMMU, Feb 22: A two-day international seminar is being organized by the Department of Urdu, in Prof Gian Chand Jain seminar hall of Urdu Department in Jammu University here.
The topic of the seminar is “Relevence of Altaf Hussain Hali in Present Era”. Noted literature Mohd Yousf Taing presided over the function while Prof Poonam Dhawan, Dean Academic Affair was the chief guest on the occasion. A reputed Urdu writer from Canada, Dr Taqi Abdi presented a thought providing key note address in which he described Hali not only a towering poet of Urdu but also a close associate of Sir Sayed Khan who spread the philosophy of Sir Sayed through his writings.
Mr Taing while delivering his presidential address congratulated the Department of Urdu for organizing two day international seminar on a vital topic. He highly appreciated the key note address delivered by Dr Taqi Abdi. He too, described Hali a poet par excellence who contributed a lot to the society through his writings. His ideology helped a lot to spread the Sir Sayed moment in India.
Prof Dhawan described Urdu a very sweet and civilized language. She said that though she could not read and write Urdu still she loves listening Urdu Ghazals. Urdu is a Indian language and department of Urdu is doing a commendable job for the promotion of Urdu language.
Earlier, HoD Urdu Prof Shohab Inayat Malik in his welcome address threw light on the aims and objectives of the seminar. He informed that the department is organizing two day international seminar after a gap of 30 years in which delegates from Canada, Mauritious and Iran are participating and presenting papers on a vital theme.
The proceeding of the inaugural session was conducted by Dr Reyaz Ahmed Associate Professor of the Department while vote of thanks was presented by Prof Sukchain Singh. Students, scholars, faculty members and large number of civil society members attended the inaugural session.
