2-day Silk Route Festival concludes

LEH, June 24: Two-day Silk Route Festival organized by Himalaya Cultural Heritage Foundation at Sumoor Nubra in collaboration with Samstan Otsal Tsogspa Sumoor Nubra concluded today.
Chief Executive Councilor LAHDC Leh, Rigzin Spalbar was the chief guest of the valedictory function. On the occasion, he said that such festivals will help involvement of younger generation, which otherwise is staying from homeland for pursuing studies.
He highlighted the need to formulate Nubra Development Authority for which the Chief Minister has already been approached. Until then, he promised all possible assistance from the Council. He stressed that such festivals should be organized as these attract more tourists to Nubra valley which in turn will result in the economic development of the region.
The CEC announced Rs 50,000 assistance to the organisers of the Silk Route Festival. He also distributed prizes to the winners and runners-up of the archery tournament.
On the occasion, Amchi Tashi Angchuk of Digger village, on the recommendation of all the four Councillors of Nubra, was awarded as ‘Best Amchi’ and was given a Certificate of Appreciation for his tireless and dedicated effort for helping people of the valley since many years through Amchi system.
EC Health Dr Sonam Wangchok and Councillors of Kyagar, Rigzin Wangdus and Panamik, Tsering Angchuk were also present on the occasion.
