UDHAMPUR, Dec 19: Continuing its offensive against drug peddlers District Police Udhampur today seized 20 kg of poppy straw (Bhukki) and 20 gram charas in two separate cases.
Reports said that during the naka checking of vehicles, Police party intercepted a truck bearing registration number HR55-M9168. During thorough checking of the truck, Police seized 20 kg of poppy straw (Bhuki), which was concealed inside the oil tank. The accused smuggler, Satinter Singh of Lama Pind, Jalandhar was arrested on the spot and vehicle was also seized.
The accused was transporting the contraband from Kashmir Valley towards Punjab for its illegall sale in the neighbouring State. In this connection, a case FIR No. 418/2016 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Udhampur.
Meanwhile, in another case, Police intercepted drug peddler and recovered 20 gram Charas and 18 kg `Bhang Powder’ (which is used to prepare Charas) from his possession. Police arrested the accused and seized the contraband.
The said accused was identified as Charan Dass of ward No. 12 Ramnagar, A/P Bharat Nagar Udhampur.
In this connection, a case FIR No. 419/2016 U/S 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Udhampur.
