2 drug peddlers held with contraband

Srinagar, Jan 31: Police today said to have arrested 2 drug peddlers from Anantnag & Srinagar from whose possession contraband substances were recovered.
PS Anantnag, police said, received specific information through reliable sources that one person namely Nawaz Ahmad Wani son of Mohd Yousuf  Wani resident of Hakura has indulged in drug peddling and hoarded a large quantity of narcotic substances in his residential house.
“During the search, officers were able to recover 70Kgs of Poppy straw from the said house. However, the accused managed to escape from the spot and efforts are on to affect his arrest,” police said.
Meanwhile, in another action, a police party of Police Station Anantnag at a checkpoint established at Daggapora Khanabal intercepted a suspicious person who on seeing the police party tried to escape from the spot but was apprehended tactfully by the alert police party.
“He has been identified as Rouf Ahmad Nanda son of Abdul Hameed Nanda resident of Daggapora Khanabal. During checking, officers were able to recover 12Kgs of poppy straw from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to the police station where he remains in custody,” police said.
In Srinagar, a police party from PS Rajbagh at a checkpoint established at Abdullah Bridge Srinagar and intercepted a suspicious person.
“He has been identified as Umar Sadiq Dar son of Mohd Sadiq Dar resident of Gopalpora Wathoora Budgam. On checking, officers were able to recover 250 strips & 6000 capsules of banned drug from his possession,” police said.
Police said the accused has been arrested and shifted to PS where he remains in custody.
