2 drug peddlers held with poppy straw, charas

SRINAGAR, May 5: Police today arrested two drug peddlers in Kulgam and Handwara and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In Kulgam, a Police party headed by Incharge Police Post Mirbazar at a checkpoint established near the Main market Mirbazar intercepted a vehicle (Truck) bearing registration number JK02B-C7973 driven by Swarn Singh son of Late Rattan Singh resident of Chenani Udhampur, police said.
Police said that during the search, officers were able to recover 5kgs of Poppy straw from his possession.
“He has been arrested and shifted to the police station where he remains in custody. The vehicle used in the commission of the crime was also seized.”
In Handwara, a police party of Police Post Chogul at a checkpoint established at Badshah Khan on the Sopore-Kupwara highway, intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot after noticing the police party but was apprehended tactfully, police said.
He has been identified as Irshad Ahmad Sheikh alias Nadeem, son of Ghulam Mohammad resident of Maidan Chogul. “During the search, about 70 grams of Charas was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to the police station.”
