SRINAGAR, Aug 20: Police today said that two militants of hit squad of the Hizbul Mujahideen responsible for civilian killings were shot dead in a gun battle in Khrew area of Pampore in South Kashmir district of Pulwama today.
Inspector General of Police Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, today said the duo were a hit squad of Hizbul Mujahideen responsible for civilian killings in South Kashmir.

He said that one among the two militants killed in a gunfight in Khrew Pampore was involved in the killing of peon at Government Higher Secondary School Pastuna on July 23 this year.
“Out of 2 killed (militants) of (Hizb-ul-Mujahideen) outfit, one Musaib Mustaq of Khrew, was involved in killing of Javid Ahmad Malik, Peon in GHS Pastuna, son of Ghulam Mohammad Malik of Lurgam at (his native place),” he said.
“Both slain militants were associated with Hizbul Mujhaideen. From their possession one AK-47 rifle, one pistol and ammunition has been recovered”, the officer added.
Earlier, a joint team of Police, Army and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Khrew after specific information about the presence of militants in the area.
As the security forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the troops, triggering a gunfight in which both the militants were killed.
A police spokesman identified the two militants as Musaib Ahmad Bhat, resident of Khrew Pampore and Muzamil Ahmad Rather, resident of Chakoora Pulwama.
As per police records, Musaib Mushtaq was involved in planning and executing several attacks including civilian atrocities. He was also involved in killing of a civilian Javid Ahmad Malik at Lurgam area of Tral and part of a hit squad of Hizbul Mujahideen responsible for civilian killing in South Kashmir.
The spokesman said that Muzamil Ahmad had joined militant ranks recently.
