2 hurt as shooting stone hit bus; 22 RTC buses deployed to clear stranded Kashmiris

JAMMU, Apr 4: Two passengers from Kashmir were injured when shootings stones near Ramban hit a bus this afternoon while 22 JKRTC buses were deployed by the Government to clear the rush of stranded Kashmiri passengers in Jammu.
Official sources said that scores of Kashmiri passengers were stranded at Jammu for the last more ten days as the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained closed for about a week. For one and half day only, goods carriers with essential commodities and oil and LPG tankers were allowed to move towards Kashmir which was facing shortage of stocks due to week long blockade between Nashri and Banihal.
As the buses were moving towards Srinagar today, at Cafeteria Morh land sliding zone near Ramban, one of the buses bearing registration No. JK02Y/ 0392 was hit by shooting stones from the hillock. Two passengers were injured as the shooting stones hit the glass widows of the bus at around 1 pm. The injured were rushed to District Hospital, Ramban and then referred to SKIMS, Srinagar. The movement of vehicles was also disrupted there for about half an hour.
The injured passengers were identified as Rafiq Hussain (28), son of Inayat Shah and Reyaz Ahmed(32), son of Mohd Yunis, resident of Dhani Sydena village in Uri Sub Division of Baramulla district. The vehicle also suffered some damage but all other passengers escaped unhurt.
A Traffic Police official said that all the stranded trucks at Jammu Nagrota Bypass, Dhar Road, Udhampur, Chenani and Nashri area loaded with essentials have been cleared and about 2000 stranded empty trucks and tankers in Lower Munda, Banihal, Ramsu area are being cleared for Jammu. Army convoy was also earlier cleared for Kashmir with essential goods from Udhampur side today. He said at Dalwas near Chanderkote, the road stretch is still single and it is likely to be improved within a couple of days.
