Srinagar, June 13: Two militants were killed in Dobanar Macchil area near Line of Control (LoC) in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district today.
A police spokesman said that two militants were neutralised in a joint operation of Army and Kupwara Police in Dobanar Macchil area (LoC) of Kupwara district. He said that the searches in the area are going on.
On specific intelligence inputs received of likely infiltration from Macchil Sector from JKP and other intelligence agencies including Military Intelligence a Joint Operation by Indian Army and JKP was planned in area Doga Nar on intervening night of 12/13 June where multiple ambushes were laid along the likely routes of infiltration.
In the meantime, a defence spokesman said that this afternoon ambush teams observed two heavily armed militants crossing the LoC in Macchil sector of Kupwara.
He said that infiltrators were engaged by ambush teams and fire fight ensued resulting in elimination of both infiltrating militants. He said their identity and affiliation is being ascertained. “Two AK series rifles, four hand grenades and other war like store were recovered,” he added.
“This successful intelligence based operation is yet another example of close synergy between Army, JKP and all agencies. The security forces stand steadfast to defeat the nefarious designs of inimical elements supported by our adversary to disrupt peace and harmony in Kashmir,” he said.
